BT calls for a better future
Telecoms giant BT has unveiled a new "better future" strategy to support its commitment to being a responsible and sustainable business
The strategy focuses on three areas, entitled “connected society”, “net good” and “improving lives”. Net good centres on helping society to live within the constraints of Earth’s resources.
The telecoms company says that doing less environmental harm is no longer good enough, and it wants to be a force for positive change by using communications technology to reduce the pressure on resources and cut CO2 emissions.
BT has set itself a 2020 goal to assist its customers to reduce their carbon footprint by at least three times the “end-to-end” CO2 impact of its business.
One example of this approach is BT’s work with Banca Civica in Spain. Installing an automated energy-saving system across its 350 branches has reduced the energy consumption of its air conditioning systems, lighting and computers, saving the bank €400,000 in energy costs and cutting CO2 emissions by 25% a year.
