Built environment charity BRE is launching a three-year research programme to improve the resilience of buildings and infrastructure to flooding, wind damage and overheating associated with climate change.
It is prioritising these after identifying gaps in knowledge around them. The programme began in April, with five initial projects. The first is developing standards for flood-resilient repairs and technical guidance to help contractors deliver cost-effective measures.
Another will provide guidance on overheating in urban homes, while a third is considering how wind loading affects buildings. Two other projects will focus on developing tools for post-disaster reconstruction, and assessing and managing resilience at community level.
