Defra appoints new minister

Lord Taylor of Holbeach is Defra's new parliamentary under secretary of state, following Lord Henley's move to the Home Office.

Previously a government spokesperson on energy and climate change, Lord Taylor now takes over responsibility for a broad range of Defra policy, including environmental regulation, waste, climate change adaptation and sustainable development.

The announcement follows Lord Henley appointment as successor to Baroness Browning, after she resigned on Friday (16 September 2011).

Lord Henley had held the under-secretary post at Defra since the coalition government cameto power in May 2010, and oversaw the department’s much-maligned review of waste policy and its investigation into mandatory greenhouse-gas reporting for businesses.
