Directive 2014/38/EU on noise from trains came into force on 31 March 2014

Directive 2014/38/EU amends Directive 2008/57/EC on the interoperability of Europe's rail system.

The amendment requires that the design and operation of rail systems do not lead to inadmissible levels of noise in the train driver’s cab and in areas close to railway infrastructure.

The Directive must be transposed into national law by 1 January 2015.
