European Commission Regulation 547/2012 introduces measures to support the ecodesign of water pumps as part of the requirements in the EU Directive (2009/125/EC) on establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-related products.

The commission says better design can improve the energy efficiency of pumping systems by up to 30%.
