European Commission Regulation 601/2012 on the monitoring and reporting of greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions under the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS) will replace commission decision 2007/589/EC, which established guidelines for reporting GHGs covered by the ETS.

The provisions of decision 2007/589/EC continue to apply until 1 January 2013, when phase III of the ETS starts and Regulation 601/2012 applies.

Regulation 600/2012 on the verification of GHG emission reports and the accreditation of verifiers also applies from 1 January 2013.
