EU outlines plastic waste vision

The EU has announced that all plastic packaging on the continent will be recyclable by 2030 as part of a transition towards a more circular economy.

Single-use plastics will be reduced, and intentional use of microplastics restricted, with the hope that changing the way products are designed, produced and used will create new investment and jobs.

European Commission first vice-president Frans Timmermans said: “If we don’t change the way we produce and use plastics, there will be more plastics than fish in our oceans by 2050.”
