ISO finally gets 14001
The headquarters of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has achieved ISO 14001 certification for the first time, 15 years after the standard's first publication.
The environment management systems certificate covers ISO’s central secretariat in Geneva, and was awarded on 14 April, alongside its fourth ISO 9001 certificate.
More than 220,000 organisations worldwide hold 14001 certifications to help lessen their environmental impact.
For ISO, using the standard is helping it to meet its objective of reducing its carbon footprint by 4% by 2014. The ISO central secretariat currently manages the development of more than 18,600 international standards.
