Response to Scotland’s consultation on its circular economy and waste route map

31st May 2024

In 2022, the Scottish government set out a range of proposals across the resources and waste system in a route map consultation. In January 2024, it published a draft route map outlining how it will deliver and coordinate these actions.

The government’s circular economy vision is that by 2045 Scotland’s cultural, social and business norms will be driven by a focus on: responsible production, responsible consumption, and maximising value from waste and energy.

IEMA recommends that circular principles should underpin all proposed actions. It also advocates ambitious targets to cut the use of virgin materials by 2045 to reduce unsustainable consumption and production, and to enhance resource security.

IEMA consulted with its Circular Economy Network members to gain insights and identify any gaps in the government’s proposals.
