New IEMA guidance on how to use your EMS to address critical climate change issues and challenges in your business. In 2015, ISO 14001 - the world’s leading environmental (EMS) standard and second most used management system standard - was revised. The new version of the standard provides organisations across the globe with “a framework to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions in balance with socio-economic needs.”
For the first time, this makes a complete and distinct standards reference to the two-way relationship between organisations and the environment (e.g. impacts on the organisation from the changing climate). It also continues to emphasise the imperative requirement for organisations to address their impacts on the environment, including climate change.
This new guide gives clear context and direction on the many opportunities businesses and organisations worldwide have to use their EMS to address the growing list of climate change issues, impacts and dependencies. It has been compiled by IEMA’s Climate Change and Energy Network in response to members requesting a ‘how to’ guide on achieving climate change action through an EMS.
