The Impact Assessment Networks 6th webinar of 2020 looks at soft skills in EIA. The webinar looks beyond the technical requirements and considers the broader range of skills required by EIA practitioners as they deliver complex, multidisciplined impact assessments for often high profile projects. The webinar is aimed at existing and aspiring EIA practitioners. It will help existing practitioners understand their core strengths within an EIA team, whilst also identifying CPD and training opportunities. Those aspiring to work in EIA will gain an understanding of what is required. Good EIA practitioners need to be able to deliver complex, multi-disciplined impact assessments. Successful delivery isn’t just about the right technical knowledge but involves a diverse mix of other skills. This webinar explained the different skills required by an EIA practitioner, highlighting the importance of each: - Business skills and commercial awareness, as EIA practitioners operate in a very commercial and often strategically driven environment - Organisation, time management and forward planning required to successfully deliver the often-critical path project approval - Communication and presentation skills needed to engage with a wide range of audiences - Project-management skills to ensure delivery on time and to budget - Other ancillary skills such as word processing, spreadsheets and other software Liz Foubister from Xodus Group shared some of the techniques and tools she has developed during her 30-year career that have helped her on her way to being a renowned EIA practitioner.
