The past few months have been busy for IEMA’s policy and practice team. Alongside the publications and consultation responses, the team has been out and about at several important policy events, globally and domestically.
At the COP16 and COP29 summits we pushed our green jobs and skills campaign, urging stakeholders to get behind our mission to ensure that countries have the right workforce plans in place to deliver on the climate and biodiversity agreements that global leaders are reaching.
We attended the UK political party conferences, setting out the key insights from the pre-election policy asks that we published.
This included our central recommendation for government to publish a green jobs plan that sets out how investment in green jobs and skills will be channelled across different economic sectors.
We held member-led roundtables, including sessions with:
I have also been feeding into Defra’s Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP) revision as a member of its advisory group, highlighting the need for enhanced governance, more effective coordination between national and local nature goals, and better business engagement with the EIP.
Away from the policy and political landscape, we had a significant presence at the EMEX show with our Climate Change and Energy Network steering group delivering a panel session titled ‘From emissions inventories to broader sustainability plans – actions and drivers for measurable change’.
Meet our new policy team lead
Agnes Chruszcz joined IEMA in September as policy and engagement lead for circular economy and social sustainability. She has extensive experience in consultancy and has delivered projects for a range of stakeholders, including central and local government, NGOs and businesses, with a focus on circular economy policy and its practical implementation.
Previously, Chruszcz was a circular economy manager at a higher education institution, integrating sustainability and circularity standards into the procurement processes.
At IEMA, she is expanding her expertise in sustainable supply chains and is contributing to two new guides due to be published shortly: the Circular Procurement Guide and Social Sustainability 101.
