In episode 10 we discuss the energy crisis that the world is facing, focusing on the UK. We analyse the role of the government in establishing fuel security policies, that help insulate the poorest against the energy commodity market. We consider the need to establish financial incentives for landlords, so that they tackle the need for energy efficiency in social housing and whether getting rid of green tariffs helps to reduce the cost of energy.
Executive of National Energy Action (NEA), the UK’s leading fuel poverty charity, since December 2017. He has an extensive history within the consumer movement working, among others, for Which? energywatch, Consumer Focus and Citizens Advice. For much of that time he has had a particular focus on energy policy, consumer vulnerability and fuel poverty.
Richard is a Chartered Environmentalist and Full Member of IEMA. He has had a life-long interest in sustainability issues and is MD of SHIFT Environment. He is very proud that the SHIFT’s work is leading to significant environmental and value for money improvements for clients. He is an ESOS Lead Assessor and is qualified for wellbeing assessments using the WELL AP scheme and as part of the Code for Sustainable Homes and Home Quality Mark schemes. At Imperial College London, Richard developed a waste silt recycling process, gained an MSc in Environmental Engineering and studied the impact of new regulations on hazardous waste disposal.
