In this episode we talk to two IEMA sustainability professionals, Laura Middlemass, from Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Rebecca Garner from Serco UK. We discuss their roles in helping to make ‘every job become greener’ within their organisations. We discuss the shift in enthusiasm for sustainability, the pandemic and lessons learnt from working through it. Rebecca Garner, Head of Environment Energy & Sustainability, Serco UK & Europe, MIEMA, CEnv Rebecca is Head of Environment, Energy & Sustainability at Serco where she leads the implementation of Serco’s environmental strategy across the services Serco deliver in UK & Europe. Rebecca’s experience in environmental and sustainability spans across a range of infrastructure design, construction, and operation sectors, and she enjoys the opportunity to engage with people on sustainability issues from construction sites to corporate boardrooms. Rebecca has a particular interest in building environmental and sustainability capability through communications, training, and mentoring.
Laura Middlemass, PGCert (Environmental Management & Sustainability), PIEMA Assistant Sustainability Manager Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Laura’s experience in sustainability is focussed around project management, engagement and communications including 10 years working for Energy Saving Trust, and 6 years as part of Newcastle Hospitals’ sustainability team. Currently Laura co-ordinates a programme of change management and engagement activities to embed sustainability in the culture of the organisation, in line with the ambitious Climate Emergency Strategy to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2030.
