This webinar provides an introduction to some of the main legislative drivers along with discussion of key considerations faced by leading companies concerning Conflict Minerals and Human Rights. Held in the build up to the UN development summit latter this Month, this webinar includes information about GACSO as a further network and membership offer now open to IEMA members.
1) Alan Knight - Alan has over 25 years’ experience working with global and national organisations, advising them at board level on global sustainable development issues and helping businesses create the response. He was appointed Corporate Responsibility General Manager at ArcelorMittal, the world’s leading integrated steel and mining company, in April 2014. At ArcelorMittal he is responsible for all corporate responsibility issues for the organisation - initially reviewing the company’s major strategic corporate sustainability challenges. Previously Alan was a Director at Business in the Community overseeing its Corporate Sustainability programmes and has worked for Virgin Group, SABMiller, Kingfisher and B&Q. He also founded GACSO the Global Association of Corporate Sustainability Officers in 2007.
2) Colleen Theron - Colleen is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales, Scotland and South Africa. She has over 20 years combined commercial experience in environmental law and sustainability issues and holds an LLM. She is the founder of CLT envirolaw, a niche consultancy that specialises in sustainability and business and human rights issues. Colleen uses her legal and commercial knowledge to help companies understand how to meet their legal obligations and voluntary best practice standards. She teaches environmental law at Birkbeck University London and is a regular contributor to the legal and professional press. Her most recent publication is Strategic Sustainability: law and best practice, by Do Shorts. The Legal 500 and Chambers recognised Colleen as a leading environmental law practitioner during her career as an environmental lawyer in the City of London. Colleen is a member of both IEMA and GACSO. She is passionate about combatting human trafficking and help set up Finance against Trafficking a not for profit.
