IEMA Futures - Reflections on COP26

During this event, a mixed panel of two IEMA Futures representatives and two more experienced IEMA members shared their experiences of COP26 and gave their perspectives on the outcomes that were achieved.

 

Speakers

David Hogg: David is an experienced Technical Manager with a demonstrated history of working on complex new energy technologies. Prior to joining Arup, David was Technical Manager of the Levenmouth Community Energy Project. This was a complex system to integrate and included hydrogen production, hydrogen usage and smart grid systems. David is a director of both the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association and Bright Green Hydrogen.

Colin Robertson: Colin, MIEMA, CEnv, is an experienced environmentalist and Group Energy & Environmental Manager at family owned Yorkshire business Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate. As both an in-house professional and external advisor his career has spanned multiple sectors including built environment, food, drink and hospitality, and construction.

Carlos Shanka: Carlos is a Spanish climate activist and sustainability enthusiast. Finalising his final year at the University of Bristol, he works for the Bristol Institute for Learning and Teaching as a Student Fellow to embed Sustainable Development in the curriculum. He is also Coordinator for Spain at the COY16 (the youth equivalent of COP26), Chair of the Sustainability Network at Bristol SU, and a Global Shaper at Bristol’s Global Shaper, an initiative of the World Economic Forum. He was also a Bristol Student Delegate at COP26.

Conor Savage: Conor is a Climate Reporting Manager at NatWest Group, where he advises on climate, nature, and biodiversity-related policy in the context of external reporting and disclosures whilst providing technical expertise. He is also Education Lead of the Sustainable Futures Network (an Employee-Led Network that aims to empower colleagues to embed sustainability at home and at work), where he leads & upskills a team that develops & delivers climate change, biodiversity, and or other sustainability-related training to thousands of his colleagues to boost their knowledge and equip them with ways to tackle the climate and nature crises. Before this he studied Marine Biology at Bangor University, completing both a BSc and MSc. Whilst there, he specialised in the effects of Arctic sea ice retreat on sea ice-dependent and sea-ice associated species.
