The European Union (EU) enacted a Directive on environmental impact assessments (EIA) almost 20 years ago, which was transferred into national law by member states. Now the EU has launched a project to assess some aspects of the application of EIA within the EU.
The project named "IMProving the IMPlementation of Environmental IMPact Assessment" (IMP)3 focuses on the analysis of the application of EIA in three fields: human health aspects, risk assessment and projects types / criteria / thresholds.
The success of this European Commission project depends on the combined inputs of experts across Europe. As someone who has been identified as an expert in the field of EIA or in the EIA-related fields of human health and / or risk assessment we would like to ask you to support this project by completing the questionnaire enclosed. [download__blank:IMP3-Questionnaire.doc]. Responses are requested by 18/4/05.
The questions focus on opinions and personal perceptions. It is a multiple choice questionnaire, therefore it should not take any longer than 15-20 minutes to complete. This can easily be done electronically by ticking the grey boxes in the document. Please save the document and attach the saved file to your reply. Alternatively, you can also print it, complete it manually and return it by mail.
Please be aware that individual results will not be represented in the reports and that all responses will be anonymous. Every response is a valuable contribution to the project so please complete as much of the questionnaire as you can. Even if you only answer parts of the questionnaire it will be interesting for us.
We would be grateful if you could forward the questionnaire to other EIA-experts, who might like to give an input to our project.
We will offer you access to the project results in return for your help. We will provide an email newsletter, organise a conference for selected EIA experts on November 22nd 2005 in Vienna and we can send you the final report with an analysis of the application of EIA in the EU member states. Please let us know your contact details if you are interested.
We would be grateful if you could return the completed questionnaire by 18th April 2005 in one of the following ways:
via e-mail to mailto:[email protected]
or via mail to
Austrian Institute for Regional Studies and Spatial Planning
Franz-Josefs-Kai 27
