Professor David Pearce died suddenly on September 8 2005. As a pioneer of environmental economics, David made a huge contribution to sustainable development and to British and international environmental policy. In June 2005 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. His influence through his writings, through his engagement in policy-making and through his teaching are reflected in the citations for this award: http://www.eaere.org/pearce.html. Of the many books and academic papers he wrote, the most widely read and influential were the series of 'Blueprints' beginning with 'Blueprint for a Green Economy' (with Anil Markandya and Ed Barbier) published in 1989.
