The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and the Department of Trade & Industry jointly published on 16 November 'Creating value from renewable materials: a strategy for non-food crops and uses - two year progress report', which finds that the amount of land in England devoted to non food crops increased by 75% between 2003 and 2005, while sales of biofuels increased, in the UK, by five times between 2004 and 2005. The report focuses on bioenergy (for power and transport fuels), plant based pharmaceuticals, renewable construction materials and renewable chemicals.
