The results of Defra's 'shopping trolley' study were published last week. The report entitled 'The environmental impacts of food production and consumption' looks at 150 of the UK's highest selling food products representing the main food categories (carbohydrates meat and dairy products etc).
The review focuses on studies that adopt an environmental life cycle analysis (LCA) approach or similar and addresses key policy issues including the various impacts of organic vs conventionally - grown produced trolleys; local vs global; and cold vs fresh vs preserved.
