The Green500 was launched on 11th December by the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone at the Building Centre near Goodge Street. London Mayor Ken Livingstone said at the launch on Tuesday; ‘The Green500 is a unique combination of a carbon management service plus an award scheme to reward performance. The results will be publicised so that Londoners can see what businesses are doing to combat climate change.’ The Mayor was joined at the event by representatives from a host of London’s leading organisations including Tesco and IKEA, who have recently signed up to the carbon mentoring programme. IKEA’s UK Environment Manager Charlie Brown said on the night: ‘We know we are not perfect and need to improve but we need help with making these improvements and which is why we have joined the Green500.’
