The Building Research Establishment, in 'Micro-wind turbines in urban environments: an assessment', published on 30 November:

compares the likely performance of three wind turbines in different UK locations, concluding that the potential output of a turbine on a pitched roof in Manchester would be 150kWh a year, compared to around 3,000kWh from a similar turbine set-up in Wick.

The report suggests that turbines would add to the carbon footprint of Manchester and Portsmouth, given their low contribution to electricity generation, in comparison to the energy required to manufacture, deliver, install and maintain them.
