Graham was appointed by the new Prime Minister Liz Truss MP, following speculation that responsibility for government policy on the climate emergency may be held by Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, in addition to Rees-Mogg’s role as Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy.
Graham Stuart MP, Minister for Climate, said:
“The UK already has a strong record on tackling climate change and is implementing a landmark Net Zero Strategy.
“We’ve committed to going further and faster to achieve a carbon neutral future.”
Referring to the Chair of the Net Zero Review – a review which has been initiated by Liz Truss MP, Graham said:
“I welcome [Chris Skidmore MP’s] independent review into how we achieve net zero efficiently, in a way that's pro-business and pro-growth.”
Graham went on to say the government will “continue to back renewables” and pointed to the UK’s status as “a world leader on offshore wind”. He also mentioned his support for nuclear energy including small modular reactors, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and international cooperation.
