How To: Become a Practitioner – Learning Outcome 1 – Fundamentals of Sustainability

This webinar makes up part of our How To: Become a Practitioner series. These webinars are aimed at members looking to take the next step in their membership journey and achieve Practitioner membership status, and at our existing practitioner members wanting to equip themselves with ongoing skills and insight, allowing them to meet their sustainability goals. Created and delivered by IEMA approved tutors, each webinar in the series covers the knowledge requirements for the 13 learning outcomes that make up our Practitioner standard. This webinar was delivered by Peter Watts of Watts Sustainability and will be covering Learning Outcome 1 – The Fundamentals of Sustainability.

Peter explained the implication of global trends for the environment, for society for the economy and for organisations and the role of an environment/sustainability practitioner in overcoming these challenges. 

This underlines much of what we do – what does sustainability mean, is that the same thing as sustainable development?  Is there such thing as a sustainable organisation – or is there no such thing?   

In this webinar we looked at some of the content of this learning outcome including how a sustainability practitioner can address challenges including the climate and biodiversity crises for different types of organisation.  We also referred to frameworks including the IEMA Skills Map as part of this.
